Following year-on-year government budget cuts to education, AGSB has had to make significant reductions in school expenditure. Over 80% of AGSB’s government income is spent on salaries for staff as well as every day running costs. 

To ensure that government income cuts do not impact the education the school offers, it relies on your support. Without parents contributing to AGSD, we would not have been able to afford key facilities and resources such as: 

• The Physics building 
• The Sports Hall and Astro Pitch 
• The 6th Form Centre 
• The new teaching complex  

AGSD are working hard to ensure that the AGSB Experience – the thing that makes this school so special to the pupils – is not threatened. But to do this, we need your help.

AGSD raises funds not from large individual donations, but from regular smaller scale commitments (e.g. £25 a month), currently made by over half of the pupils parents. Any donations are welcome but regular monthly donations are normally more manageable for most people and enable AGSD to budget for future expenditure.

As an independent organisation with charity status we are able to claim gift aid (where school is not), so by collecting on behalf of the School (via the School Fund), and the PFA we’re able to pass on the gift aid.

Seed funding is the stepping stone for all developments at AGSB. It provides the much needed early monetary support to ‘win’ any bids from the government or other private investors for development of the school. AGSD funding thus creates a leverage effect: AGSD showed a commitment of just under £400,000 for the new teaching complex which gave rise to the government funding of just under £3million. This is why AGSD is so crucial.

As an independent organisation with charity status AGSD are able to claim gift aid (where school is not).  Gift Aid allows UK charities to claim back the basic rate tax already paid on donations by the donor. This means we can claim back from the government on your behalf 25p for every £1 donated, boosting the value of the donation by a quarter.

Yes. Whilst AGSB is part of the Hamblin Educational Trust, all AGSD donations are spent on projects at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys.

We appreciate that not all parents are able to make regular donations. Contributing to AGSD is on a voluntary basis only.

At present, just over 50% of parents with boys at the School contribute, so those who donate are in the majority. Our aim is to achieve over 80% participation in order to continue to develop and improve the excellent facilities the School deserves.
